Quy Nhon Sports Bar coastal atmosphere — Binh Dinh, Vietnam

A Coastal Bar with a Big Heart

Quy Nhon Sports Bar — more than a place to watch the game. We're a hub for the local community.

The Quy Nhon Sports Bar Story

Back in 2014, 2015, and 2016, Docker and her mum, Carol (RIP February 2024), travelled Vietnam. At the end of our third trip, we decided to take the plunge and move to Vietnam for a better life. We picked Quy Nhon for the peace, the nature, and the friendly locals.

Setting up the bar was not an easy task. It took nine months of solid work and a ton of paperwork. We finally opened on 13 February 2018. The bar was a very old house that has now had two huge renovations, and it was the very first bar in Quy Nhon of this type.

We have certainly had our hurdles. We started our second renovation six days before they closed the border — that was a huge challenge. The only thing that got us through mentally was thinking of Melbourne and the ridiculous lockdowns they endured. That was our old home.

Community & Charity

We consider ourselves to be a big part of the community. We are, and have been, very active with charity over the years. During our time here, we and our friends of the bar from all around the world have contributed to the community in many ways.

During COVID, we fed 7,000 people and looked after the Leprosy Village for 18 months. We have supplied wheelchairs to locals and to the local hospital. In 2023, we ran a road safety program and supplied 425 helmets to underprivileged children.

In the last 9.5 years, we have had three typhoons and flooding here — the biggest was in 2025. The city and surrounding areas were absolutely devastated. During this time, I worked with the Military, Immigration, and the People's Community. With the generosity of our customers, we raised 190 million VND, and I was on the front line in the villages that needed help most. We have also contributed to many other natural disasters over the years.

Looking Ahead

My next challenge, hopefully in 2027, is a float-a-thon. All over Vietnam, many people drown — even at the local beach. I hope to get major sponsors, small sponsors, and government support for this project. If we can save one life, it is worth the challenge of setting this up and teaching people how to float, not to panic, and how to breathe.

If you can help in any way, or would like more information, please have a chat with Docker. We wish that everyone enjoys their time in Quy Nhon — and particularly at our bar.
